Nothing beats owning a battery operated lamp, especially when the electric service is unreliable because of a storm or a post falling for some reason. There are different type of battery lamps that are available in the market: the rechargeable, the LED rechargeable and the simple battery. The only downside is that when the energy in the batteries dies, the light dies with it.
Downside or not, not having electric lights at night when one is still trying to do some work can really be inconvenient. And anyway, that is why the battery operated lamps were invented, because oil lamps can burn down the house, candles can do that too, and electricity can die, and burn down the house. So whatever criticisms these batteries are getting, the pros still outweigh the con and that is that.
People need light. That is just biology. We need light to enter and stimulate our rods and cones and make us see. Modern man has gotten spoiled over the convenience of light, but then that is why electricity was discovered, to ensure that we have light. The rest just followed.
When battery operated lamps first got invented, it excited a lot of people because of the convenience. There was no fuel to think of, no acrid burning smell from the fuel that was used in hurricane lamps, the fear of fire was diminished. However, the life span of a battery was short and this led to a lot of criticism. These in turn opened the doors for invention yet again and the rechargeable batteries were soon flooding the market. And the lights just kept on going, and going … (sorry cannot resist).
The simple thing recharging these battery operated lamps is that when the electricity is on; just plug them in and voila! charged batteries, and the cycle begins again. The downside to recharging is when the procedure is not done properly. These batteries need to be charged to the fullest capacity before they could be used. Then of course, when the levels go down, they have to recharge again. Some batteries do not respond well when they are recharged with empty levels. Others respond in the opposite way. It really just depends on the instructions which have to be followed thoroughly. With good procedure, the batteries will last for years before they have to be replaced. Not only are they economical, they are very practical.
